Local 16

Starting a food and travel blog when no one is going out to eat or traveling is not really ideal. However…

SO many of us are daydreaming about the day we can go out and do things again. So why not share some of the great places we can look forward to visiting? One of the questions a lot of us have been asking each other is, “Where is the first place you are going after this is all over?” For Joshua and I, it’s definitely brunch! (After visits to the salon and barbershop, of course.)

Before COVID-19 had us sequestered to our homes, one of the questions we got the most was where to go for brunch in DC and this restaurant is always at the top of our list. Local 16 is an American and Afghan restaurant located on U street, one of our favorite areas in the city. The main level has a small bar and regular table seating; the second level is reserved for bigger parties and private dining; and last, but certainly not least, is their rooftop.

The rooftop is definitely where you want to be. There are a few TVs at the bar if you’d like to catch a game and they always have a good mix of hip hop and R&B playing. They also enclose it during the winter months so you can enjoy the space year round. I have to be honest, though, their rooftop is not known for spectacular views. However, what it lacks in views and IG-worthy aesthetics, it makes up for in food, vibes, and, most importantly, PRICE.

If you love a good bottomless brunch like I do, you cannot find a better bang for your buck than at Local 16. For $27, you can choose from one of their many delicious entrees AND get unlimited (almost) anything. We’re talking mimosas (traditional orange juice or you can even get pomegranate), bellinis, bloody mary’s, red or white sangria, and they even offer a few different beers with the bottomless deal. As a nice touch, they serve your drinks in the cutest mason jars and you can swap for different drinks as you go. Again, all of this for just $27!

Since this post is being written while social distancing, below are some throwback pics from a few (of MANY) Local 16 visits. It’s also a great spot for a ladies brunch, as you can see from the photos (miss you, girls!). Again, it may not be the fanciest but the food and price just can’t be beat. We can’t wait to be back on this rooftop, enjoying brunch, bellinis, and, most importantly, each other.
